Having Fun with Dad in the Smoky Mountains.jpg

Father’s Day is coming up. Every year this holiday sneaks up and blindsides even the best of us. If you’re in need of some Father’s Day advice, consider planning a trip to Tennessee, home of the world-famous Smoky Mountain Range.

The Smoky Mountains make for a wonderful getaway for just about anyone, but dads especially. Here are just a few of the things you and your pops can enjoy together in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the surrounding area.

Axe Throwing in Pigeon Forge.jpg

1. Axe Throwing in Pigeon Forge

Exactly what it sounds like on the package. Book an axe-throwing session for Dad! Better yet, bring the whole family and learn to hurl axes like a pro. Nothing says “family fun time” like three bullseyes in a row. It’s an incredibly simple yet immensely satisfying activity that makes for a great photo op!

2. Go Fishing in the Smoky Mountains

The Smoky Mountains aren’t just famous for all the glorious mountain peaks, there are some world class streams and rivers here, too. Nearly 3,000 miles-worth to be exact! If your dad has a hankering for some trout or bass, Tennessee allows licensed fishing all year round!

A long day of fishing is great, but every dad knows it’s the following round of drinks that really make the day. The Smoky Mountain Brewery is your one stop shop for an atmospheric drinking experience fit to end any day of fun.

4. Play a Round of Golf

Sure, you can probably golf at home, but there’s something different about vacation golf. Maybe it’s the chance to check out a whole new course, or maybe it's the opportunity to meet new people.

Gatlinburg’s golf course has been ranked the “Best Municipal Golf Course in Tennessee” by Golf Digest. Take Dad out for a few holes and find out why!

Dinner and a Show.jpg

5. Dinner and a Show

Tennessee is famous for its dinner theaters; you can’t go wrong picking one. You’ll be surprised at the sheer volume of options available. There’s pirate-themed dinner shows, shows full of jukebox hits and of course a dinner theater specializing in Dolly Parton.

See all the options here and pick out your favorite (or two!).

Moonshine Tasting.jpg

6. Moonshine Tasting

Go on a taste-testing tour of Gatlinburg’s history. The Ole Smoky Moonshine Barn is the perfect place to stop by if you’re looking for a good selection of classic Tennessee Whisky with that special moonshine taste.

Of course there’s no shortage of good moonshine in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, so feel free to check out some of the other famous distilleries like Sugarlands!

Grill Out and Relax at a Cabin.jpg

7. Grill Out and Relax at a Cabin

Chill out with your grill out! Our premiere Tennessee cabins are your relaxing little hideaway in the Smokies. After a long day of moonshine tasting and axe throwing (maybe not in that order), there’s no better place to unwind than your own private cabin.

So fire up the grill, relax on the porch and catch the beautiful Smoky Mountain sunset!
