About Old Forge Distillery

The Old Forge Distillery, the latest attraction at the Old Mill Square in Pigeon Forge. Housed in a century-old building that was once a farm supply store, the Old Forge Distillery is just steps away from The Old Mill —where the Head Miller grinds, fills, and ties bags of stone-ground, quality grains. Here, pure mountain water and freshly ground grain from the mill are crafted into hand-forged spirits, keeping alive a long-standing tradition of settlers in the area.

A historic location, Old Forge Distillery is named after the Iron Forge that once sat on this land and gave birth to one of Tennessee’s true industries – iron-making — as well as the city’s name. Take a journey through history as you explore how these hand-forged spirits are crafted. Start the tour with a visit to the Old Mill, one of the most photographed mills in the country and a stop on the National Historic Register of Places. The Mill, powered by the flow of the Little Pigeon River,  is a system of pulleys, shafts and belts, still grinding grain as it did in 1830.  Back then, farmers brought in excess grain to be ground, which they distilled into spirits. Follow the trail of grain to the Old Forge Distillery, where you see small batch copper column stills in action as our Head Distiller crafts 1830 Original, the first of many spirits produced by the distillery.

Engage with interactive displays and artifacts and learn how moonshine and other handcrafted spirits forged a culture in the Smokies. Cross the street to the Pigeon Forge Pottery, where in-house potters craft original pieces with unique glazes, including one-of-a-kind moonshine jugs.

The Old Forge Distillery incorporates the best the Old Mill Square has to offer, from moonshine jugs to flavors from the Candy Kitchen, where time-tested recipes and traditional methods are used to make taffy, fudge, brittles, and more.  Old Mill grains are shared with the Pottery House Café and Grille, artisan bakery, and Old Mill Restaurant. Take home a piece of handcrafted quality from one of the many shops at the Square.  Connected by a door to the Old Mill, the General Store sells cornmeal, grits, and other fresh stone-ground grains. The Farmhouse Kitchen has what you need for quality Southern meals - from Old Mill stone-ground grains, pancake and baking mixes, and versatile dip mixes to jams, pickles, chow-chow and more. The tradition of craftsmanship is a way of life at the Old Mill Square, honoring the rugged spirit of pioneers who carved their existence in this town.
