Fall is a peak vacation season in the Smoky Mountains, when visitors descend on Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge to see rich autumn foliage. Use this handy list to prepare your rental cabin for fall guests.
1. Spruce Up Outdoors
Expect your autumn guests to spend hours on the cabin’s deck or porch, taking in the colorful views. Be sure your outdoor spaces are ready!
- Neaten planting beds and cull plants that didn’t survive summer.
- Got a gravel parking area? You might need to replenish gravel.
- Inspect decks and patios for wear and loose boards. Do deck furnishings (or just their cushions) need cleaning or replacing?
- Make sure the hot tub is in great condition.
- A fall wreath on the door is a welcoming touch. Cluster pots of yellow, burgundy and rust-colored mums on the deck or porch.
2. Prepare for the Weather
Fall in the mountains gets frosty fast. If you keep ice scrapers or other cold-weather supplies for guests, be sure you’re fully stocked.
Autumn, falling between summer AC use and winter heating, is a good time to schedule a seasonal checkup for the cabin’s HVAC system.
3. Restock the Basics
Did summer guests use up the cabin’s basics like complimentary coffee and tea or guest toiletries if you provide them? Are the kitchen utensils looking worn after months of grilling and picnicking? Is it time to replace towels?
4. Prepare for Play
If your cabin sports a game room, you can bet fall guests will hang out there to watch football on TV, play pool or enjoy games. Check pool balls and cues and replace worn out board games. Consider whether it’s time to upgrade the TVs or the streaming, cable or satellite package.
5. Refresh the Rooms
Switch out lightweight sheets and blankets for cozier choices, like flannel sheets with comforters or heavier blankets. Add throw blankets of soft fleece or toasty wool, tossed over bedroom chairs or the living room sofa. If your new bedding comes in fall colors or themes, that’s a bonus!
6. Promote Fall Fun
Guests appreciate information about local attractions and seasonal festivals. Your cabin listing with Colonial Properties Cabin & Resort Rentals always guides your guests to nearby attractions, but you can also leave brochures and listings for your guests. Tell them about your favorite corn maze, pumpkin patch or craft show.
